What does pride mean and how to wear it.

With pride month quickly approaching, it’s the ideal time to reflect on what makes you feel pride and how you want to express your pride to the world. When it comes to showing your pride, there’s no right or wrong way to do it. Maybe you express your pride through art, music, or dance. Maybe you choose to show up at events to share your pride with others who are celebrating the progress of the LGBTQ+ community. Or maybe expressing yourself through fashion makes you feel the most pride (or maybe all of the above). No matter how you choose to do it, Pride Socks is here to celebrate pride with you!

1. You just came out. This process can be scary or exciting. Either way, it is most definitely a courageous act that involves extreme vulnerability. Coming out is a time to fully assimilate feelings of self-love and pride in who you are. Wearing your Pride Socks is just one way to express that you’re proud of YOU!

1. You’re an ally for the LGBTQ+ community. What does it mean to be an ally? It means you support the LGBTQ+ community, even if you don’t personally identify as LGBTQ+. You know you’re an ally if:

• You ask questions about things you don’t understand, even if they’re uncomfortable for you.
• You listen to community members and have empathy for their lived experiences.
• You show up for the LGBTQ+ community by attending meetings or events, or even by simply showing up at the voting booth to support equal rights.
• You courageously speak up and advocate for the community.
• You support LGBTQ+ businesses.
• You wear your Pride Socks.

• OutYouth- a nonprofit organization that serves Central Texas LGBTQIA+ youth and their allies with programs and services to ensure these young people develop into happy, healthy, and prosperous adults.
• Equality Texas- a nonprofit organization, serving as the largest nonpartisan statewide political advocacy organization working for the elimination of discrimination targeting the LGTBQ+ community.
• Point Foundation- empowers promising lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students to achieve their full academic and leadership potential.
• The Looking Out Foundation- a LGBTQ+ owned nonprofit organization that helps support causes and organizations that often go unnoticed.
• Camp Brave Trails- a leadership camp for LGBTQ+ youth and allies, ages 12-18. They also offer year round leadership and mentorship programs connecting LGBTQ+ youth to their people, place, and passion.
