Meet T. Jay Santa Ana-

Why did you name your sock "Respect the Drip''?

Based off the meme, and also a mantra to myself, “Respect the Drip” is a reminder to honor my art style, no matter what kind of reaction it elicits. As a painter, this also applies to my style of painting, which includes lots of pours, splatters, and many drips.

What was the inspiration behind the design?

Given the events of last year which are still continuing (a global pandemic, social inequities), I really had to pay close attention to and respect my process for creating art, even if that meant not creating any art for a period of time. On the same note, the drip is defying gravity and floating upwards, which to me signifies hope and persistence.

What is the last thing you did that made you proud?

The last thing I did that made me proud is my first solo exhibition of 2021 that opened in April and ran for one month. I was given complete creative freedom and ended up painting two murals on the walls, over which I hung various works of art.

What’s your favorite holiday and why?

It’s ALMOST a solid tie between Halloween and Christmas, but Halloween wins because it takes place during my favorite season on earth – Fall.

Who would you want to give a hug to right now?

I wouldn’t mind hugging my dad – I miss him!
